Get off the couch and go camping, hiking, bicycling, swimming, fishing, boating, bird watching, touring, snowboarding, skiing, or play a sport – maybe a family or neighborhood ball game – just get outdoors.  No matter what season it might be, there is always a healthy, invigorating activity you could be doing out in the fresh air.  Even if you are limited in the amount and type recreation activity you can participate in, almost everyone can still lounge around and benefit from the tranquility and solitude offered by Mother Nature.  So either load up the family and go breathe some fresh air in the great outdoors, or park your behind on the couch and watch the soap operas while sucking up your own fumes.  Hey, it's your choice.    

Be safe while enjoying your outdoor adventure.  Whether you are on your own or it's you along with your family or friends, don't compromise your safety for the sake of fun or, worse yet, for the sake of foolishness.  Follow all the rules for the outdoor recreation area where you set up camp.  Learn the proper techniques and skills that pertain to your outdoor activity (camping, hiking, fishing, boating, etc.).  And most of all, use your common sense, or bring along someone who does have some common sense and stay out of their way.  The most dangerous and despised animal in the outdoors will be the careless camper.

One last bit of valuable free advice here, do not leave your wet boots and socks too close to your evening campfire to dry, like my buddy, Rick did about 35 years ago, when we pitched our tents 8 miles into the Big Domiguez Canyon.  That was 8 map miles that didn't include all the up and down or the side to side travel involved in the hike.  Only the soles of his boots remained by morning.  As you can imagine, he did not enjoy the hike out as much as he enjoyed the hike into the canyon, but he was grateful that I had spare socks and duct tape – more on this in Campfire Safety Lesson the Hard Way.
